Grabbing the Bull By the Horns
Have you ever heard the saying, grab the bull by the horns? It means to go after the thing boldly. I mean if you are going to grab a bull by its horns you better we confident and certain that you can handle what it’s going to throw around, which is a lot of opposition. No bull want’s its horns grabbed because it means they will lose control, it means they aren’t the boss anymore. I've been to a real bullfight in Spain, bulls are no joke. If you're going to grab them, you better be serious!I’ve been a bit absent recently from writing here, to you because I’ve been grabbing the bull by the horns. My husband lost his job in February after twelve years of faithful service to his employer. We have spent the last few months evaluating our course, praying and evaluating our budget! Not my favorite thing to do.This spring God gave me an opportunity to provide for my ministry of writing and speaking through accepting a part-time job to help fund my dreams. So what did I do? I grabbed the bull by the horns. Often times we want to work for our dreams the way WE want to work for our dreams. Which usually is to sit back and get mad at God when he doesn’t make it rain down funding and endless opportunity. Yet he has provided because he gave you a call, a gift and equipped you. Now, it’s up to us to grab the bull by the horns and wrestle it down.My dream is you. Writing to you. Teaching you. Leading you. Cheering you on as you increase your fellowship with God and others. You are worth it. Worth working hard, fighting my pride and funding my own dreams. Jesus didn’t give the disciples a trust fund when he left to provide all they needed while they furthered the gospel. He gave them his teaching, the spirit, and a pep talk. Then, they were sent out against great opposition to go and do ministry life. They did not sit back and wait for Jesus to come back. They did not sit and wait for money to accumulate so they could “afford” to pursue the call to missions. They worked hard (some as tentmakers even). They worked, they sacrificed and they trusted God would make it so. Often times we sit twiddling our thumbs waiting for God to “provide” and he’s already sent like ten opportunities for us to work it out ourselves! So, the story is I have a great part-time job with a great boss who supports my dream and lets me move freely about the cabin in order to pursue it. That’s what God does. I’m willing to do the work, I'm skilled enough to do it, and I’m passionate about doing a good job so that I can continue to pursue my own passion projects. It's an opportunity to work as worship and give of the first fruits of my life in this way. Seriously, I could’ve missed this while I was waiting for money to rain down from heaven.Let's stop sitting ringside and instead jump grab the bull by the horns today! Be doers of the word, not simply consumers. I cannot wait to see how God will move in this new season, now that we are working together instead of him dragging my dead weight around. I’m up, I’m moving and working towards my call and dreams. Praise God for his provision!Stick with me friends, we are on this journey together! Connect with God:Is there something God may be providing in your life that you have missed because you were waiting for mana to actually fall from heaven when there's a ram in the thicket right next to you? Maybe it’s a job opportunity, maybe it’s a mission opportunity? What have you been missing while you were waiting for God to do it your way? First pray. Then open your eyes, ears, and heart to see, hear and know what God is doing. Finally, be willing to work for it. Nothing comes easy, stop waiting and grab a shovel! Let’s dig into this one life together!
