Connect With God: Whose Platform Am I On?

Read Psalms 62 In my tiny space of the world, within the dreams and call of someone who is pursuing a career in the online writer space, there is an ugly secret. Ok, it's not super secret but it sort of is, I may have dramatized for effect there. In the writer space, we are now encouraged strongly to work to build our "platform". I'm writing a book, a book that I believe is a good and necessary word for today, but this book will not see the light of day if I don't build my platform. Which means if I don't get more subscribers, more Facebook followers, more likes, more shares, more Instagram views, then a publisher won't even open the pages of my book. So, that's what the world is telling me. Grow, grow bigger and do anything it takes for numbers. That's true for most of us right, in business it's about bigger numbers. In teaching it's about higher scores on standardized tests, in church it's about how many rears in chairs and in the online space it's about followers. But our dear Lord says it's about the power of one."Rest in God alone my soul, for my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold, I will not be shaken. My salvation and glory depend on God, my strong rock."The only thing everything is truly riding on is God. God brings favor. God breathes new life. God gives, God takes away. God promotes, God demotes. It all comes from him. All success is his in my life. Sometimes in this world of more, and bigger, and followers and platforms I often have to remind myself it's about the one. It's about what brings delight to my Lord. Me ministering around my table to ten women is just as important to him as me speaking from a platform of 10,000 followers.God sees you, friend. He sees your hard work. He sees you sitting with that student for hours that needs extra help. He sees you working hard to make ends meet. He sees you pouring into those youth at church. He sees and counts the things that the world doesn't value. He sees the good stuff that you think goes unnoticed. And when you start to think the world is right, remember what it says in verse 9:"Common people are only a vapor; important people, an illusion. Together on a scale, they weigh less than a vapor."People are abundantly important to the ministry of God, to the bringing of the gospel but remember people are just human. God elevates messages, God promotes, God brings favor. Don't put all of your worth in people or the things of this world. Connect with God first. Align with him and then pursue with full force the things God is calling you to. Work hard at those things to the glory of the Lord and no one else.As for my "platform", I'd rather call you my tribe. And I'd rather simply say, I am here to tell you about a God who audaciously loves you, calls you to himself and wants you to connect with his people in his name. May God place favor on that message alone, in his own way.Connect with God:What numbers are you focusing on too much? What accomplishment have you made an idol or become obsessed with? Get with God on this through prayer and his word. How can you align your goal, dreams and worth with the Lord this week? He values your work and passions so much dear sister, don't quit! Just make sure your platform has not begun to overshadow your purpose. I'm praying for all of us as we pursue the good stuff in a numbers-minded world.
