Connect With God: Fighting Pride

Read Jeremiah 9: 23-24

"This is what the Lord says: The wise person should not boast in his wisdom; the strong should not boast in his strength; the wealthy should not boast in his wealth. But the one who boasts should boast in this: that he understands and knows me-that I am the Lord, showing faithful love, justice and righteousness on the earth, for I delight in these things. This is the Lord's declaration."

God called me into the book of Jeremiah in my current season. Which is a funny book to be called into, if I'm just being honest. Over the summer it was Deuteronomy and now Jeremiah. This is not the normal warm, fuzzy scriptures that you would like to hang on your wall. Instead it is filled with words of obedience and consequence for disobedience. I mean who doesn't love to read that???Funny enough, I am learning so much from the book of Jeremiah as I'm sure you have seen over the last few weeks, there's been a lot from Jeremiah coming at you! This past weekend God reminded of my struggle with pride. Pride, it'll get ya every time! Here's the readers digest version:If you're wise- boast in the LordIf you're strong- boast in the LordIf you're wealthy- boast in the LordIf you belong to the Lord- boast in the LordWhy? Because he is faithful in love, justice and righteousness and even goes as far to delight in them! He is faithful to go the distance when we are not. All these things we do, we do only because of him. Even my own faithfulness to him is because of him. He is ALL THE THINGS and without him I am nothing but wretched sinner. This is so against the grain in our society, which means it is exactly where we should be operating. Giving him all the glory all the time, puts us right where we should be, falling at his feet in worship. Now that's a good word!Connect With God: Review your language. Are you boasting in your own strength and abilities? Are you taking credit for what the Lord has done? Check your pride friends, it's all him. Take some time to read these scriptures on pride: James 4:6, James 4:10, Philippians 2:3 and Proverbs 11:2. What's your take away from these verses? How can you live a more humble life that boasts in the Lord? Pride is an easy entrapment, fight it to it's death friends! My sword is drawn this week too, I'm fighting with you! WE WILL BOAST IN THE LORD!
